Scared of Putting Yourself Out There? Read This!

Scared of Putting Yourself Out There? Read This!

Imagine you have a great idea.

The only problem is that you’re afraid to share it.

Maybe you’ll share it with a close peer or 2.

But they don’t need to hear the idea.

They just listen because they are your friend.

For the idea to have an impact, it needs to be heard on a global stage.

That’s when useful value is provided.

However, you’re not comfortable putting yourself out there.

That’s why content creation suffers.

There is an inhibitory feeling associated with eyes being on you.

Humans have 3 types of feelings:

  • Inhibitory – When you feel small.
  • Stagnant – When you feel nothing.
  • Expressive – When you feel big.

The goal is to feel BIG when you create content, not small….

Never be scared of putting yourself out there again.

Why Fear of Being Judged Happens

It all comes back to the eyeballs.

‘Eyeballs?’

Yea.

I used to be the Vice President, recruitment chair & mentor in my Toastmasters club.

This allowed me to see speech anxiety from multiple angles.

I saw smart people who were terrified of speaking in front of a group.

They rationalized the fear.

When I asked them to illustrate why they felt fear…

They got detailed.

That’s when many of the responses came back to the eyeballs.

They were uncomfortable with so many people staring at them.

Why???

Because a flurry of eyeballs staring at us indicates to our primal side that something is wrong.

The old school programs buried in the nervous system think we are being ostracized from the tribe.

Which was a reality back then.

It’s predominantly an illusion now.

Nowadays, when people are staring, that’s because they are paying attention.

It’d be an insult if their eyeballs weren’t visible.

Imposter Syndrome

I see a lot of channels blow out up of nowhere on YouTube.

Their main strategy is:

  • Insert a popular person’s name & write ‘EXPOSED.’

A group of people flocks to those channels.

That’s because there is a group of people who love to see others fail.

I  think certain expose channels are needed.

Because there are scam artists who need to be exposed.

While on the other hand, the opposite problem exists.

Where good people can have their reputations ruined by someone who wants more followers & subscribers.

‘What if I don’t want to be exposed?’

Putting yourself out there opens up a bunch of possibilities.

Nothing is certain.

You can do everything right, but a shithead can come & use you as a target for their fast come up.

‘You’re not making me feel confident in putting myself out there, Armani.’

Good…

Why Only a Few Rise

Want to know something?

‘Sure…’

Anything great requires risk.

More importantly, anything great requires preexisting paradigms to be shattered & revaluated.

Let’s talk about risk first.

What do you think people who rise in a field get motivated by?

‘Beats me.’

It’s a compelling vision.

That vision allows them to push forward.

That vision makes their mind 1 pointed & cultivates work ethic.

Learn how to build your vision in the Level Up Mentality:

When the mind becomes 1 pointed, (which means to center itself on a key idea), it goes beyond negative criticism when faced with any.

The desire for bringing the vision to reality beats the fear of being criticized.

That’s what allows great people to move forward.

More importantly, that’s what allows them to place more importance on character rather than reputation.

Reputation is fragile.

As mentioned earlier, some shithead can come out of the blue moon, make up lies about you & destroy your reputation.

But the character is something that is not fragile (hopefully).

Character beats reputation.

Character also makes a solid reputation a byproduct.

Warren Buffet’s mentor, Benjamin Graham, was quoted saying:

“In the short run, the market is a voting machine but in the long run it is a weighing machine.”

Funny.

Similar concept with character.

It’s Rarely That Bad

Thus far, I talked about the negative parts of putting yourself out there.

Where your body hates having attention on it.

Also, I discussed how fragile reputation is.

I talked about the negative parts first to weed out the people reading this blog.

I want the few risk-takers to continue on.

Let me talk about the empowering parts now.

It’s rarely that bad.

There is beauty to putting yourself out there.

Ideas that lie in the mind, die in the mind.

When an idea is clearly communicated in the public domain, the power of that idea RISES.

Which allows your power to rise…

Each time you complete a content piece, publish it & put yourself out there, the more potential for useful value is added.

‘What determines if something is useful?’

When it takes a person from Point A -> Point B.

The transition process can be:

  • Turn a sad person -> laughing uncontrollably.
  • Turn someone who is ignorant on a topic -> smarter on the topic.
  • Equip someone with a process to make their life easier.

All useful information is a byproduct of expressing your idea.

That’s when the DM’s flood up over time with comments like:

‘Whoa, that 1 blog you wrote completely changed the way I look at life. Thanks!’

That’s adding value to the world through the creative method.

Where for you to win, others had to win in the process.

This is a skillset of content creation & exercising the articulation muscle.

The most important word is: exercising.

Practice makes progress.

putting yourself out there

Move Forward or Slide Backward

This is the golden age of creativity.

One-man armies are being formed in real-time.

Experiences are being turned into useful information.

Focus on the great parts of the era rather than being depressed by the bad.

Acknowledge the bad, yes.

Then take away the fear of the bad.

After that, find useful information in the bad & articulate that.

There is a power to words.

Words don’t only allow a person to express their idea, but they also allow a person to travel across time.

  • Words can be used to make sense of the past.
  • Give clarity to the present.
  • And propel someone to their future.

Use the words correctly & putting yourself out there becomes a fun process that allows for constant reinvention.

The risk takers rise, while the people on the sidelines will watch with lowkey admiration.
