Human beings were wired to have hobbies.
Hobbies are acts done to decompress.
‘What if I don’t actively find a hobby?’
Then a hobby will find you. It just won’t be the good kind.
When a hobby finds you, it comes masked as drugs, excessive alcohol, porn, etc.
When you find a hobby, that’s when productivity & having fun in your adulthood happens.
There are a range of hobbies to choose from.
Since this blog is centered around communication skills, I’m going to give you 2 suggestions that everything else will be built on.
Speaking & writing.
Rather than making everything complex, be simple.
You are not a YouTuber, podcaster, public speaker, etc.
Your hobby is speaking.
You are not a tweeter, blogger, author blah blah blah.
Your hobby is writing.
By focusing on these 2 fundamental skillsets, it becomes easier to build hobbies.

The key to making money is to give something of useful value to someone in exchange for cash value.
This concept holds true for employees.
This concept holds true for entrepreneurs.

1. Blogging
Blogging is a hobby that can easily be monetized down the line.
You can sell your products & services.
If you have no products or services, affiliate for other people’s products or services.
Don’t want to do that?
Then run ads on your site.
It’s important to have something worth saying.
Blogging becomes mighty when you realize you have your own newspaper.
This personal newspaper can be read by 1000s of people from different countries.
How dope is that??
This is also a great business card.
If you have the guts to publish your ideas, then you learn where you stand on certain issues.
Others will actively seek you out because they know the topics you stand for.
Fun way to provide value.
2. Emceeing
There are events consistently being hosted around the world.
Since the lockdowns, things may be a tad bit different where you are living.
Less events do not mean no events.
The emcee is different than a public speaker.
Where a public speaker goes deep with topics, the emcee is surface level.
Don’t let surface-level fool you.
The emcee serves as the GLUE guy.
An emcee is the heart of an event.
They breathe life to the random acts of movements.

Ask a wedding planner to get you connected with an emcee who you can shadow.
Or start your own club & practice your speaking skills there.
Emcees can negotiate their payments down the line.
If you can start building up a body of work, then you raise your value in the marketplace.
3. Writing Books
One of my favorite hobbies is writing books.
My books are currently sold on Amazon, Audible, Gumroad, etc.
Read by over 1000s of people.
Think about it like this real quick.
I enjoy writing.
Others enjoy reading.
This is when win-win relationships are created.
I write a book once & create 5 streams of income.
‘5 streams??’
Yea.
Let’s use my book, Level Up Mentality as an example.
- I put the book on Amazon for Kindle AND paperback. That’s 2 streams right there.
- I put the eBook version on Gumroad. 3rd stream.
- I get Level Up Mentality converted into an audiobook and put it on Audible. 4th stream.
- Then I put the audiobook on Gumroad. 5th stream.
Imagine writing 5 more books and constantly repeating this framework.
The passive income adds up over time!
Know this though…
Writing a book is one of the hardest tasks out there if you do not enjoy it.
It’s thinking for a long duration of time.
Tons of people can’t even think for little bits of time.
If you can see yourself enjoying writing, the only roadblock is your imagination.
This is one of the lethal hobbies to make money.
4. Impromptu Speaking Skills
Impromptu speaking skills are versatile.
But let’s add a remix.
Impromptu speaking skills on a YouTube channel.
If blogging is you owning your own newspaper.
Youtubing is you owning your own television station.
Each time you record a video, pick a topic…
Then hit record and begin talking.
No form of planning whatsoever.
This hobby is a pain in the ass in the beginning.
But over time, it becomes a joy to practice.
The beauty is that you don’t need to make it any more complicated than that.
No need for complex software, freelancers, music, etc.
Just you and the camera.
The more videos you publish, the more you’ll see others messaging you and saying:
‘Wow, it seems like you are speaking to me & articulating my personal experiences. Thanks!’
That’s you building a market.
A market you can always sell products to down the line.
