Honest Review of Aweber Email Marketing Tool

Honest Review of Aweber Email Marketing Tool

What is Aweber and is it worth it?

These may be 2 questions you are wondering.

I’m actually going to answer more questions than that.

This post will be a review of the Aweber email marketing tool.

For the past 2 years, I have used Aweber for my business, ArmaniTalks.

And for the past 2 years, I have gotten to know this tool very well.

The purpose of this post is to give my honest opinion in regard to the tool.

What this post will NOT be is a detailed explanation of how to use the tool.

Like set up landing pages, launch campaigns and track analytics.

There are other posts for that.

This post will talk about what Aweber is, the practical benefits it has had on my business, and who the tool is right for.

Let’s get started.

What is Aweber?

Aweber is an email marketing tool that allows you to cultivate a relationship with your audience.

The relationship is cultivated by posting to your email list.

How often should you post to your list?

That depends.

For some people, it’s once a week.

For other people, it’s once a month.

And for my brand, I do daily emails.

The reason I do daily emails is that my brand discusses communication skills and the importance of writing.

So might as well practice what I preach, you know?

Since writing daily, I have built a lot of engaged readers.

Plus, accumulated unsubscribers as well.

That’s just the nature of the game.

Aweber has a simple dashboard that allows me to see my daily subscribers as well as unsubscribers.

And also, there is an option to enable comments for the people who unsubscribe.

So, you can see why they are leaving.

Sometimes, these people will be dissing you.

Other times, they will give great constructive feedback.

Practical Benefits of Aweber on my Business

I use my newsletter to cultivate a relationship with my audience, occasionally run sales, and grow my other media channels.

Daily writing allowed me to improve my writing skills.

As for the sales part, I sell most of my products on Gumroad and Amazon.

Aweber makes it simple to hyperlink my products on my emails.

You can add multiple products.

Plus add nice imagery.

So Aweber helps turn lukewarm traffic into hot traffic.

And hot traffic into customers for my products.

  • Lukewarm means they know you, there is some rapport, and they may buy.
  • Hot traffic means they know you, there is a lot of rapport, and they will buy.

In addition to generating sales for my business, I also use the email feature to promote my other media channels.

YouTube, blog posts, podcasts, etc.

This allows me to use Aweber as the foundation of my business.

‘Foundation, you say?’

Yes, foundation.

Importance of Owning your Traffic

This blog post.

You are reading it right now.

But after you are done reading it, I may never see you again.

That means I don’t own the traffic.

In this situation, let’s say you found me through Google.

This is Google’s traffic, not the business owners.

‘How important is owning your traffic?’

Well, let’s say you go to a bar and meet a cute girl.

You guys build rapport, and she wants to go on a date with you.

And let’s just say you never took down her number.

What’s the likelihood that you’ll see her again?

‘I don’t know.’

Exactly, you don’t know.

But let’s say you exchange numbers.

Now the likelihood shoots up of making another contact.

That’s like an email list.

I’ve seen Mailchimp get involved in some politics as of late.

And they have even terminated some accounts.

Which is something I do NOT want from my email marketing provider.

I have 0 desire to know where you stand on political issues.

Just provide me the service and leave me the fuck alone.

Thus far, from the best of my knowledge, Aweber hasn’t gotten slick like that.

Which is something I appreciate.

Especially considering my goal is to own my traffic.

Who is Aweber Right for?

Aweber is great for content creators, consultants, and business owners.

These are just a few people who will benefit from owning a list.

But more importantly, an email list is for someone with a long-term mindset.

If your goal is to just keep spamming nonstop, then you may see some initial success.

However, the goal of rapport will not be met.

Long-term thinking or no-term thinking.

Thus far, Aweber has not dropped any major updates which changed up the entire user interface.

Now that I think about it, Aweber is almost identical to how it was like when I got on it 2 years ago.

Some changes in the back end, yes.

But nothing that affects how I send out my message.

So, if you like consistency of user interface from your tool, this is a great option.

How to Set Up Aweber and Grow a List

You can sign up for an account here.

Set up a profile.

Create a landing page to collect subscribers.

From there, there are options to grow the list.

You can either grow through organic method, paid method, or both.

Organic method is using free traffic.

Let’s say Twitter.

You use Twitter to grow an audience & occasionally plug in your landing page.

This method is free.

The paid method is by running ads to your landing page.

Facebook ads, Google ads, or any other ads for that matter.

Some people combine both methods.

Thus far for my brand, I have strictly used organic traffic from my podcast, Twitter, this blog and YouTube.

Your path depends on your budget, patience, and goals.

Honest Thoughts on Aweber Customer Support

Thus far, every interaction with the customer support team for Aweber has gone smoothly.

Rarely had to wait longer than 5 minutes.

Maybe that’s because I hit them up when it wasn’t busy.

Or maybe they are naturally fast with service.

Other than that, my questions were always answered.

I hate it when I hit up customer service, and they are more clueless than I am.

Fam, you’re the employee at the company.

Step up.

Aweber support team has stepped up and has helped walk me through different features in the tool, referred me to important knowledge base documents and talked to me politely.

I appreciated that.

Is Aweber Right for You?

That was my review of the Aweber email marketing tool.

For the past few years, Aweber has been my home.

I enjoy this platform.

And don’t see myself leaving anytime soon.

I don’t ask for much.

Make the user interface simple.

Give good metrics.

Help when needed.

And stay the fuck out of my business.

That’s it.

Is Aweber right for you?

Take some time to think about how an email list will help your business.
