Why Tyrants Hate Comedians

A while back, I saw Bill Burr do a bit on Steve Jobs.

Within the bit, he trashed Steve Jobs’s legacy.

I’m a big fan of Steve Jobs.

He was a visionary of not only 1 company but 2.

Apple and Pixar.

Yes, he played a crucial role in the development of Pixar too…look it up.

However, I am aware that Steve Jobs had a lot of haters.

I know because I went to school with some of them.

The day that Steve Jobs died, a few of the engineers within the College of Engineering said:

‘I never got the hype about that guy. Wozniak was the real engineer!’

Bill Burr capitalized on that criticism.

He spent his bit trashing Steve Jobs for not actually engineering, but rather telling people what to do.

That bit influences a lot of people to this day.

Whenever some people bring up Steve Jobs, they think that Bill Burr had a point.

‘Um…what did he exactly build? He only told people what to do.’

Here’s Why Tyrants Hate Comedy

Tyrants hate comedy because comedians can do low blows and get away with it.

Comedy is the only field where a person gets rewarded for shocking others.

Very few fields are like that.

The comedian always has an easy cop-out if they offend others.

‘What do I know? I’m just a comedian.’

A lot of tyrants are born from self-esteem issues.

If you study the childhood of any major tyrant, you’ll see that they used to get bullied.

As a kid, bullying happens with fists.

As an adult, bullying happens with words.

A comedian can get away with a lot.

They can bring the tyrant back to earth.

The comedian can plant doubt in the masses.

The masses will go from fearing the tyrant to wondering:

‘Why are we afraid of this guy again? He’s a schmuck!’

A tyrant understands the power of comedians.

Therefore, the comedian is often the first to be put in prison.

Humanizing Humans

When I was in my master’s program, I was put in a group with this one guy named Kevin.

He was this mean Ukrainian guy.

The annoying thing was that he was intelligent.

So, it was hard for the group to stand up to him because he often turned out to be right.

He would shut down any sort of dialogue.

Whenever others would oppose him, he’d veto them.

He accumulated power, and he would soon abuse it.

I noticed something about Kevin…

He would always cough for some reason.

Not one of those loud coughs that a person did when they were sick.

Instead, he had these subtle coughs as he spoke.

Initially, no one noticed.

I think I only picked up on it.

One day, he was bashing me for a question I asked the group.

‘Do you really not know the answer to that?’

I couldn’t stand his condescending tone.

So, I responded:

‘Cough, No Kevin. cough, I don’t, cough.’

The group could tell I was mocking him.

As soon as they noticed, they erupted in laughter.

Kevin turned red.

He was embarrassed.

I noticed whenever he was getting out of control, the mocking coughs bought him back to reality.

Once I got everyone laughing at him, I realized Kevin was a flawed human.

Using Humor for Evil

A lot of creators on YouTube picked up the concept of why tyrants hate comedians.

These creators decided to apply the concept in their videos.

That’s pretty much what the whole “exposed” genre was about in 2019.

Spencer Cornelia and Coffeezilla were the 2 big creators of the “exposed” space.

They would find influential creators with a large reach, and then they would dissect their past.

Spencer and Coffeezilla got some of their stories right.

They called out scammers who deserved to be called out.

But other times, they would just pick on a big creator for no reason.

They’d only interview the clients who had a bad experience with the creator to frame this creator as a scammer.

They didn’t interview any clients who had a good experience though.

Biased reporting 101.

The 2 believed they were doing God’s work.

Their mantra was:

‘We’re just standing up for the little guy.’

Although they did some good, I believe they did a lot of bad.

These 2 were hilarious.

They had a mix of intellect with humor.

If they chose to make a video about a creator, then the creator’s reputation would be ruined.

It didn’t matter if the story was accurate or not.

That moment taught me that not all comedians are good.

A lot of them masquerade their hate as “jokes.”

Beware of automatically believing a comedian just because the paint themselves as the “little guy.”

A lot of them are simply calling themselves the “little guy” as a marketing technique.

They hope to one day become the big guy.

Understand What Humor is About

There are a few things that are never taught.

2 include:

  • Imagining.
  • Feeling emotions.

No one ever taught us how to imagine.

We were just born doing it.

No one ever taught us how to feel.

We were just born doing it.

When we tap into something a human was born with, that’s when we connect to their primal side.

Laughter is the ultimate feel-good emotion.

We are born doing it.

If you are someone who can tap into humor, then you have the person in the palm of your hand.

The opposite is also true.

If someone makes you laugh, then they have YOU in the palm of their hand.

Humor can be used for good or evil.

Humor used for good is when a comedian takes away credibility from a tyrant in the making.

Humor can be used for evil when selfish people attack others who are bigger than them for no reason.

These selfish comedians use their humor to ruin reputations and pass it off as ‘jokes.’
