My Opinion of Adam Sandler & His Movies
I’m an Adam Sandler superfan.
I will proudly admit this.
Others will be shocked.
‘What the heck?? His movies are so mediocre! Look at the rating that Rotten Tomatoes gave his recent movie.’
I don’t care.
If he comes up with a new project, I will watch it.
So, I’m very biased towards Adam Sandler.
There is a reason I’m a superfan.
There are a few insights into content creation that Adam Sandler can give all creators.
You can be great by being mediocre.
Rapport
Adam has been relevant since the late 90s all the way to 2024.
How is a stretch like this possible in the volatile Hollywood industry?
A stretch like this is possible because of 3 words:
- Attack, attack, attack!
Adam is always on the move.
He’s always publishing.
Due to him always publishing, I always know what he’s up to.
Since he’s always in the scene, I always fall back on his movies when I have nothing else to watch.
After doing this a couple of times, I feel like I know him.
You know what I mean?
I’ve seen him from so many different angles that he feels like a virtual friend.
Due to him being my friend, I like to support his newest project.
Versatility
Say what you want about Adam Sandler, but he’s versatile.
You may not like his serious movies or think he’s not funny…
That’s beside the point though!!
The point is that he has those movies at all.
Adam is strategic.
He has different movies for the palette.
Mystery, comedy, drama, etc.
It’s one thing to build rapport with a character.
It’s another thing to see that character in different avenues.
Sort of like a relationship.
You don’t only fall in love with your wife by going on dates with her outdoors and that’s it.
You also need to see her indoors.
With her family.
At her work event.
Once you see that 1 person from multiple angles, rapport is built.
Creating a Content Universe
With Adam Sandler, I don’t only have rapport with him.
I also have rapport with the other characters in his films.
If you watch his movies, you’ll see familiar faces over and over again.
This makes me feel calm.
Look.
People lead busy lives.
At the end of the day, when they put on a movie, they just want to chill.
They don’t want to think even more.
I believe Adam understands this.
He knows his lane to the tee.
That’s why he keeps re-inviting familiar actors that he has rapport with to his films.
It’s easier to chug out a movie that way.
Plus, he knows his audience members are slowly building rapport with the cast as well.
Mediocrity Doesn’t Matter to Me
If I say that I’m a super fan of Adam Sandler, I often hear:
‘Dude, his movies suck!’
These people keep trying to show me his movie ratings.
I want to be blunt with these critics.
I don’t remotely care!!
Hopefully, you understand how the superfan’s mind works.
They don’t care about ratings, public perception of the actor, and the actor’s personal life.
What they care about is the output of the art.
- Does it make them feel good or not?
If you can understand this fundamental concept, then you can build superfans too.
There is a 1000 true fans theory.
If you have 1000 true fans willing to give you 100 dollars every year, then you can gross a 6-figure income.
Forget trying to appeal to everyone.
Appeal to those who will buy a movie ticket, buy a book, buy your music, etc.
Study Adam’s career.
He will give you a peek into building an army of brand ambassadors.
Going Deep in Your Craft
Adam Sandler’s movies take risks.
When you take risks, some movies will fall flat.
While other risks will be spectacular.
Movies that fell flat were Little Nicky and Hubie Halloween.
Movies that were breathtaking were Anger Management, Click, and the Longest Yard.
Adam is capable of taking these risks because he is a boss.
A boss in Hollywood can:
- Act.
- Write.
- Do business.
Adam does all 3.
So, he can take risks with Gilmore Productions.
While a lot of other studios are putting out movies that are meant to cater to a certain audience…
Adam is continuing to experiment.
Love him or hate him, can’t deny that the man has been in the game long enough to understand how the movie business works.
My Opinion on Adam Sandler Movies
Overall, I love Adam Sandler movies.
If you were to ask me:
‘Hey Armani, do you want to watch the new Dune movie or the new Adam Sandler movie?’
I’d have to think about it.
I like the Dune series, sure.
But if my day was already busy, I’m not trying to watch a 2+ hour movie where I have to think a lot.
The reason I vibe with Adam’s movies is because it feels like effortless consumption for me.
Adam’s ability to:
- Own a stable of actors.
- Act in his own movies.
- Take risks.
- Know his lane.
- Willing to experiment with different roles.
Allows Adam to create superfans.
Building your Superfans
You don’t need to be great to be great, you just need to be consistent.
Adam isn’t the most in shape, the funniest, or the most charming…
However, he always shows up.
Jim Carrey had that type of star power a while back too, but he’s not in the scene anymore.
He’s had a spiritual awakening and is a different spot in his life.
All good.
I’m wishing him the best.
Adam has ridden the waves for decades now.
Love him or hate him, can’t deny that the man always shows up.
His movies are his life.
And due to him making his movies his life, he is able to build superfans around the world.
His net worth is sitting at a cool 400+ million dollars right now.
