4 LIFE-CHANGING Benefits of Teaching Others

4 LIFE-CHANGING Benefits of Teaching Others

The level up lifecycle:

  1. Consume.
  2. Create.
  3. Teach someone else to create.

Few make it to 2.

Fewer make it to 3.

Poor teachers give a bunch of commands to the student thinking the student will understand it.

A whole bunch of content.

Little to no context.

That’s a fail.

Teaching is a fun process.

‘Fun process for who?’

Fun process for you and the student.

When you teach, multiple groups are meant to win.

View it like that.

Create synergies to feel the benefits of teaching.

Bird’s Eye View of Teaching

Do you know someone who knows a bunch of information but never applies it?

‘I know a lot of people like that. Heck, I’m that person too. Why do you think that is?’

It’s because you input information, but never output information.

You’re like the sponge who keeps absorbing water.

But never wringing the water out!

When we teach, we are outputting our knowledge.

The process of outputting knowledge is what communication is all about.

Communication skills allow us to linguistically rewire our nervous system.

However, we don’t want to talk at people, we want to talk to people.

‘How do I do that?’

By having a paradigm shift regarding teaching…

The Correct Paradigm to Teaching

Often, a teacher is teaching a student as if the student knows nothing.

Let’s flip it.

Assume the student knows everything you are about to teach, but for some reason, they forgot.

Teaching means to educate.

Education stems from the Latin word:

  • Educere.

Which means to draw out what is already within.

When you assume the student knows everything & your goal as the teacher is to remind…

Now, both parties feel engaged.

When you are reminding rather than teaching, you’ll effortlessly use more analogies & short stories.

Analogies and short stories contain imagery.

The subconscious mind loves imagery.

Benefit #1 of Teaching: Learn Deeper

When 1 person teaches, multiple people learn.

Often the student will ask a question from a different angle.

You’ll be like:

‘Whoa, I never thought about it like that.’

Other times, as the teacher tries to explain a concept, they realize they don’t fully grasp the concept yet.

One time, I had to explain what a computer was to an older gentleman.

He was like:

‘I use a computer, but don’t know what it is. Can you teach me what it is?’

I knew a lot about computers.

But when I tried to explain it, I was fuzzy myself.

That’s when I did further research, leveled up my understanding & taught him the fundamentals.

Benefit #2 of Teaching: Sharpen Communication Skills

Doesn’t matter which occasion you are teaching for:

  • Teaching a bunch of new employees.
  • Getting a consultant up to speed for your business.
  • Mentoring someone.

Each student is different.

Therefore, teaching will allow you to flex your communication skills.

Sometimes, you’ll notice humor works.

Other times, it’s better to be serious.

And other times, it’s about being funny…then being serious out of nowhere.

Benefit #3 of Teaching: Easier to Spot B.S

Imagine you wrote a lot of books.

Eventually, you’ll be able to spot a quality book from crap.

You can tell who is putting out quality information and who is just using words to fill up pages.

That’s because you have cultivated a different FLUENCY when it comes to books.

During teaching, you’ll make a daunting realization.

‘Which is?’

Tons of people suck at teaching.

It’s not like the poor teacher is malicious.

It’s just that they don’t practice teaching. So, they are fumbling & stumbling away.

Still, they have good information.

It’s easier to scope through the poor delivery to pick up the good information because you understand the nuances of teaching.

On the other hand, some people are charismatic, but not saying much.

These charismatic people can fool the ignorant.

However, a teacher with skin in the game can tune out these deceptive people real quick.

Teaching builds the B.S meter.

Benefit #4 of Teaching: Impacting Lives

Teaching properly makes the world go round.

Imagine if someone knows a valuable way to do something but no one else knows how to do it.

The economy would collapse.

The reason businesses are a thing is because processes were capable of being communicated, duplicated & multiplied.

Through the process of teaching, you upgrade someone’s software and change their life forever.

Especially when the field is in demand.

Imagine a guy who just got fired from his job & needs to get money asap.

He asks you for advice on how to start an eCommerce shop.

If you can clearly teach him the process of market research, website setup, traffic generation, etc…

He’ll be thankful for a very long time.

Learn, Do, Teach & Repeat

Now that you know the 4 benefits of teaching, know one more thing:

  • Not everyone should be teaching.

That’s because they have 0 skin in the game.

They barely know the topic themselves.

Yet, they act like masters.

This group teaches with the ego to feel self-importance.

A rare few are meant to teach because they have practical experiences.

Those practical experiences humbled them & tamed their ego.

Not only do they have practical experience, but they have also spent years learning the theory of their field of choice.

Books, lectures, podcasts, and much more.

If you are those rare few with a combination of:

  • Practical experience.
  • Theory.
  • And humility.

Now it’s time to level others up.

Teach others who want to learn.

If no one wants to learn, create some content.

Content creation allows you to build your digital empire and attract people along the way.

One of the greatest ways to teach is through stories.

With stories, you can program humans at will.
