Uncontrollable Anger: A Story About Blind Rage

Uncontrollable Anger: A Story About Blind Rage

The following chapter is from Limit Breaker: 101 Short Stories, Essays, and Insights to Improve Communication Skills

Orlando is not too far away from Tampa.

The drive is roughly 1.5 hours away.

So, whenever a major news story happens in Orlando, I’ll hear about it in Tampa.

One of the major news stories involved a tragic murder.

A pastor found out his wife was sleeping with a church member.

When he heard the news, he was livid & went to confront his wife.

As he went to confront his wife, he noticed she was with her brother.

The brother protected his sister from the pastor’s rage.

As the pastor left in anger, he said one thing to the brother.

Which went something along the lines of ‘promising to kill his sister.’

Which he unfortunately did.

This is a very popular pastor in the Orlando area with a cult-like following.

He was viewed as a prophet by his followers.

The Facebook pictures of him seemed colorful & full of life.

Contrast that with his face after his arrest.

The pastor was now in court.

He seemed shocked by what he had done.

Knowing very well that he threw away his life, forever.

A life was lost, a family in shambles & another life most likely sentenced to life in prison.

This began with uncontrollable anger.

Blind rage is a thing.

It’s something that you may not know about if you never experienced it.

It’s has a similarity with being blacked out from alcohol.

Where a person is capable of functioning despite the mind being in another realm.

  • During blackout drunk, you do stuff that you regret.
  • During blind rage, you do stuff that you regret.

Uncontrollable anger is fire.

One of the worst ways to combat fire is with more fire.

Anger is a sign to distance.

Which is harder than it seems.

The pastor was unable to distance.

Instead,  he closed the gaps.

That’s when chaos ensued.

‘Why is distance a good fix for anger?’

Because of how the brain is structured.

During anger, the amygdala overpowers the prefrontal cortex.

The prefrontal cortex is responsible for the logical faculties.

The amygdala is the fierce animal side.

Distance is powerful because as time passes, the amygdala goes from survival instincts to cooling off.

Everything is not black & white.

Some people are so livid by a situation where distance seems like the last option.

It’s hard as hell.

Still, it’s one of the most effective strategies during moments of rage.

Unfortunately, the pastor did not have the awareness to exercise the strategy.

Now his life is forever altered, along with his victim. Sad.

Emotions come & go.

Yet, the consequences can come & stay.
