The #1 Trait of a Fearless Speaker
The best speakers have a HIGH tolerance for embarrassment
Pretty sure they have choked a speech or forgot a point on stage
They were embarrassed
The audience giggled
And life moved on
Since that moment, they realized the biggest critic of embarrassment is the inner voice
During Toastmasters, I’ve seen plenty of people choke, forget their speech mid-point, accidentally drop a curse word
At most, the audience had a chuckle
And if the speaker was smart, they’d JOIN them on the chuckle
Learning to laugh off embarrassing moments is a superpower
Because when you can zoom out & see the bigger picture, you’ll realize people will forget
And you will forget as well
But after the embarrassing moment, the harshest critic is the inner voice
Fools you into thinking that everyone is gossiping about you
And they are planning your downfall
While in reality, they are back to focusing on their problems
Their dreams
Their responsibilities etc
You take up less than 1% of their daily thoughts
Unless you DIRECTLY do something to threaten someone’s identity, they won’t think about you like that
And if you don’t believe me, then analyze your own thoughts
Most are centered around you
Even if you choke on stage, give yourself a pat on the back for getting on stage
Most do not have the courage to do that
Then, have a good laugh over it with yourself
After you did all that, own up to the error & see how you can improve for next time
Public speaking is one of those sports that you get better at with time
Abundance mentality towards speeches
Abundance mentality towards anything that you fear
The opportunities are limitless when you shape your mind to see it
Embarrassment or not, life will move on
