Why You Should Own a High-Quality Suit

Why You Should Own a High-Quality Suit

A while back, I used to go to Ross to buy my suits.

I’d go to Ross, buy whatever-sized suit, then get them tailored.

I thought I devised the perfect plan.

Get a suit at Ross for 75 bucks, and get it tailored for 75 bucks.

Wow!

A whole suit for only 150 bucks??

I thought this was a genius plan until a few things went wrong:

  • The jacket and the pants didn’t match.
  • The tailor did a bad job.
  • Or the suit didn’t look good after I washed it.

I was learning the hard way that being cheap was the most expensive route of them all.

When It All Changed

By the time I started ArmaniTalks in 2018, I changed my strategy.

My Twitter account was growing fast, and I had more eyes on me.

I didn’t want to wear a suit from Ross!

So, I went to Men’s Warehouse.

2 men greeted me and told me how to build a high-quality customizable suit.

They taught me about color schemes, how to design the pants, and which fabric to use.

At the end of the meeting, I bought 2 suits, black and blue, for over 1500 dollars.

I felt bad spending that much money.

Time passed.

Today, I feel amazing about spending that much money.

I got a deal.

What High-Quality Suits Taught Me

In the long run, I learned that investing in high quality was cheaper than investing in low quality.

Ever since I bought those suits in 2018, I haven’t thought about buying another suit.

The black and blue suits are high quality, and don’t look any different after coming out of the washer and dryer.

I also saved a lot of stress.

When I used to buy Ross suits, I used to be anxious whenever a big event came up.

I kept wondering what was going to go wrong this time…

You feel more confident when you know you have 2 high-quality suits waiting for you whenever a big occasion comes up.

Your perception points go through the roof.

People love it when they look at you and they see that you’re dressed up for events that call for you to be dressed up.

When everyone is suited up, it feels good to hold your own.

What to Look for in Suits

I recommend you go to a place where people know what they are doing.

I only know of Men’s Warehouse because I have direct experience with them.

But I’m sure there are tons of options out there.

Ask the employees a lot of questions.

Which fabric is the best, which color schemes work, and which dress shirts work well?

I recommend you start off with a black and blue suit.

Later, you can add gray and brown, but those aren’t fully necessary.

If you have black and blue in your arsenal, then you can get different dress shirts and ties, and effortlessly create brand new looks.

Just make sure you are getting the right base.

The jacket, pants, and possibly a vest.

Make sure they are measuring you correctly.

Touch the fabric.

‘Will these clothes become tattered after coming out of the dryer, or will they be good?’

When you get high-quality material, it will initially be expensive.

But in the long run, you won’t have to keep shelling out gas money to go to Ross to buy a new pair of pants because your last pair ripped.

Slowly Add onto the Base of Your Suit

Over time, you want to build your collection of dress shirts and ties.

I recommend you buy the dress shirts and ties from the same place you bought the suits from.

Upsells normally suck.

But with suits, upsells are amazing.

It saves you a lot of headaches in the long run.

Experiment with different colors.

Follow the employees’ suggestions.

They know a ton because they recommend suits for a living.

Take a few risks but not too many risks.

For example, when I bought a blue suit, the guy gave me a pink shirt and a pink checkered pocket square.

At first, I thought:

‘Pink?? I don’t know about that.’

I normally prefer dark colors.

However, I put faith in the employee and took the risk.

In the long run, that outfit ended up being one of my favorites.

The risk was worth it.

Have one outfit where you took a risk.

Go beyond your comfort zone.

For the rest of the outfits, go with what makes you feel safe.

Additional Insights with Owning Suits

Keep a special portion in your closet for your suits.

I recommend you throw away the previous low-quality ones.

It’ll feel good having a quality-over-quantity mindset with your suits.

When you have too many clothes, it’s easy to overanalyze.

But when you have a few strategic items, you feel more composed about picking your clothes.

I recommend you accept at least 1 invite a year where you will have to wear a suit.

A wedding, conference, birthday party etc.

Don’t just buy the suits and have them collect dust.

1 day out of 365 days to wear your suit is definitely possible!

Over time, you’ll see this was an amazing investment.

Suits are the Modern-Day Battle Armor

A suit will make you look like a stud.

Especially when you invest in the right material.

Assess which stage of your life you’re in.

Is this the stage where you want to level up your looks?

If so, don’t half-ass it!

Invest the money to look good.

Find a great suit shop near you.

Ask questions.

Follow their suggestions.

Happily pay for high quality.

Leave a happy man.

Having the right suit for your body type is an investment that will pay dividends over time.

You win someone’s eyes before you win their mind.

The right suit will make it easier to win their eyes.
