Why People Start Doing Drugs

Once you get into the drug cycle, it’s hard to get off.

Your body becomes physically addicted to it.

When you abruptly try to stop taking drugs, the body shakes.

The body wants more.

The best cure is prevention.

If you can prevent yourself from getting into drugs in the first place, then you don’t have to worry about your body shaking.

But let’s say are already in the drugs cycle…

Finding out why you’re doing it will help you design a solution to stop doing it.

The Peer Pressure Moments

Whenever we think of peer pressure, the first thing we think of is drugs.

1 guy is standing up for himself.

5 of his friends pressure him to try weed.

Eventually, the 1 guy submits and takes a hit of weed.

His friends give him praise.

It’s not the weed that gets him into drugs.

It’s the praise that he gets from his friends.

One of the top reasons people get into drugs is because of their social circle.

Their friends see it as the normal thing to do, so they do it.

But if their social circle has a disgusted attitude towards drugs, then they will be less likely to try it as well.

That’s not always the case though.

Some people do drugs in silence.

Their friends judge, so they don’t tell their friends.

The Solo Drug User

Solo drug usage is more common than you think.

These are the guys who have a 9-5 job and are pretty responsible.

They show up to work on time, stay longer than expected, and their coworkers have nothing but positive things to say about them.

After they clock out for the day, they’ll go to the gym and cook a meal.

Once they are about to watch a TV show, they take a couple of bong hits.

You’ll be surprised by how many people have this identical routine when they leave work.

Smoke, eat, and watch TV.

These people are tricky to classify because they aren’t harming anyone.

It’s not like their drug usage is wreaking havoc on other people’s lives.

To make it even trickier, their drug usage is even harming them.

They aren’t waking up the next morning and neglecting their responsibilities.

These people will make the argument that weed makes them more productive!

‘If I don’t unwind at the end of the night with a bong rip, then I will go insane.’

Desire to Escape Reality

Another reason people do drugs is to escape reality.

They want to escape reality for a multitude of reasons:

  • They work so hard that they need a break.
  • Their life is awful.
  • They live with annoying in-laws.

These people abuse drugs.

They need to keep chasing the next high.

Just like that… a few years have passed, and they have nothing to show for it.

How to Get Help

I’m not going to use this post to share how to stop doing drugs.

I don’t have any credentials to dish out that type of advice.

I’ll just talk about what I’ve seen.

I’ve seen people who were on drugs one day, and then stopped the next day.

They had an intense moment of shame.

They acknowledged they were squandering their potential, and just stopped.

My old school karate teacher had a bad relationship with his dad.

His dad was always hard on him and was upset by his weed smoking.

One day, his dad died out of the blue moon.

My karate teacher was crushed.

Out of homage to his dad, he stopped doing weed.

He felt shame that the last memory his dad had of him was of a pothead…

If it’s not shame that made them stop, it was fear.

There was a guy I knew who went to pick up his weekly supply of weed.

Once he went into the neighborhood, he saw a bunch of cops.

When he saw all the cops, he got spooked out.

He thought:

‘What if an undercover cop busts me when I try to purchase my weed? My life will be ruined.’

He got so paranoid that he didn’t want to smoke ever again.

Because he was now too paranoid to purchase weed.

Other people seek help.

There are rehab centers, hotlines, and more.

Talk to a friend or go on online forums to see how someone resolved an issue that you’re currently going through.

Overcoming drugs is not easy.

But when you overcome it, you’ll feel a ton of confidence.

Avoid Experimenting

It all begins with experimentation.

You start off with one drug and slowly expand from there.

It’s not worth it.

Instead of wasting your money on drugs, invest your mind on skills.

The mind is designed to get obsessed with something.

Get obsessed with unlocking your potential.

And trust me on this one…

People who do hardcore drugs will make it sound like the most magical thing.

‘Bro, you got to listen to me! Weed will change your life forever.’

You try it.

Then you see that it’s not a great experience at all.

Best to have a 0-to-1 mentality.

Avoid dabbling in it.

Because soon, you will be trapped in a vicious cycle, and it’ll be hard to get out.

Coffee….

People who don’t consume drugs and alcohol often drink coffee.

I believe coffee is a way better consumption item than drugs.

Because after you smoke weed, you feel lazy.

After you drink coffee, you feel alert.

Rather than feeling lazy and sleepy, invest in a coffee maker.

Try to make different lattes.

I know someone is going to say:

‘Coffee is a drug too!’

It may be, but I don’t view it like that.

I view coffee as an engine that creates a lot of productive winners.

Rather than getting caught in the drug trap, experiment with different coffee styles.

Better to feel alert in the real world rather than escape to an imaginary world.
