Use Personal Biases to Create Better Content!
The following post is from Street Smarts: 101 Short Stories, Essays, and Insights to Improve Communication Skills
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the overwhelming bias in the mainstream media.
Some of the news outlets take pride in their bias.
They use it to zone in on their target audience.
For other media organizations, it tremendously hurts their credibility.
Question:
- Can biases be avoided?
Depends.
‘Depends on what?’
It depends on many factors.
But predominantly on the scale of the organization.
Let’s say an organization has 1-3 people.
Then it’s not too difficult to tame the bias which rears its head.
This small group can talk it out & the parties involved can all agree on reasonable terms of what constitutes as bias & what doesn’t.
However, as the organization scales (as all mainstream organizations do) bias goes from being a black & white issue into a gray one.
What I consider bias may be considered fair for you & vice versa.
In a perfect world, the news organizations would cover the facts & let us make up our own judgement.
But we do not live in a perfect world.
We live in a world which are controlled by flawed humans.
As repulsive as bias may be for mainstream media, I want to share an exclusive insight with you.
‘What is that?’
Bias is great for content creation!
Picture a writer’s content that you resonate with. ‘
This writer is someone who speaks to you.
Chances are when you are reading this writer’s content, you are not solely looking for pure statistics.
You can just Google the statistics yourself.
‘Then why I am resonating so much with this writer?’
Because you want their real-life experiences & key takeaways.
Surprisingly, the inherent nature of bias can be turned into leverage.
My personal biases lean towards victor mentality, accountability & work ethic.
This book isn’t for victims & whiners.
That allows me to strategically polarize by repelling weak minds real quick!
Personal Biases = Personal Branding Narrative
Whether you are giving a speech or sharing a message online, it doesn’t matter. Be real.
In a perfect world, biases don’t exist.
But we are human.
Therefore, we have naturally ingrained biases from our experiences, belief systems & viewpoints.
Be fair when you need to be fair.
However, when sharing your story, my recommendation is to tilt whichever way that your life points towards.
As the old saying goes:
“Turn your mess into a message.”
That is how brilliant communicators create content.
