The Problem with Streamers That No One Is Talking About
The following post is from the ArmaniTalks Newsletter
On the internet, you can’t talk about one thing for too long.
There is the phrase ‘niches get riches.’
I believe this is an industrial-age concept that will soon die out in the information age.
In the information age, themes win.
What is the theme of your brand?
You’ll start off talking about one thing.
Then you’ll be forced to evolve.
The reason for the evolution can be organic or inorganic.
An organic change is when a guy talks about mental health…
That’s what he is known for.
2 years in, he begins running out of content on mental health.
At the same time he’s running out of content on mental health, he begins getting curious about fitness and its role on the mind.
Just like that, he went from mental health alone to fitness.
He introduced a new topic to his brand.
He has organically expanded.
Other times, the change is forced.
An example of forced change is with the creator Just Pearly Things.
She initially started on YouTube and built her empire there.
She had a meteoric rise and hit millions of followers pretty fast.
However, the content was too polarizing, and YouTube demonetized her entire channel.
Now she was forced to evolve.
This was more inorganic because it was not her choice.
Now she’s on Twitter growing her following there.
She has expanded from YouTube to Twitter.
The bottom line is that you have to expand on the internet.
One expansion I’ve been noticing is with streamers.
They went from playing video games online to talking about politics.
I have no clue who watches streamers.
My theory is little kids around 10-14.
These streamers build their fame by playing FIFA and Call of Duty.
Slowly, they must expand due to organic or inorganic reasons.
They begin tinkering with new topics.
Politics has been their favorite as of late.
2 examples of this are Sneako and Destiny.
These 2 are dangerous for 2 reasons:
- They have put in their 10,000 hours.
- They don’t stand for anything.
First point.
If you look into their careers, they have been grinding and making videos for 10 years.
They are highly polished with their speech, know how to use their tone to capture attention, and are witty.
These people also have great talking stamina.
On the first day of every month, I record an ArmaniTalks show for 1-hour uninterrupted.
It’s hard to talk that long!!
The top streamers can talk for 7 hours with ease…
Incredibly impressive.
So, they put in their 10,000 hours.
However…
The problem is that they don’t stand for anything.
They have a great distribution system, but their message is nonexistent.
Sneako is a great example of that.
He has switched his personality so many times within the past 4 years that I lost track.
It’s one thing to switch your beliefs because you learned new info.
It’s another thing to switch your beliefs because you think it’ll get you more views and approval of your crew.
He went from encouraging degeneracy, to starting a family, to switching religions and more.
It happens so fast.
Destiny is another character.
Since he looks so different, people automatically assume he’s a liberal.
If you listen to him, you’ll see he’s not really a liberal.
That sounds refreshing!
Not a liberal or a conservative?
He’s an independent thinker!!
That’s not a good thing in his case.
He’s a little too independent and has a lot of fringe ideas.
Open relationships are one of them.
I’m not bullish on the idea.
I don’t think open relationships will work for most of society.
To his credit, he doesn’t force people to adopt that lifestyle.
His main focus is that you can do whatever you want.
The problem with him is that he doesn’t really have much of a moral compass.
Most of his ideas lead to the “do whatever you want because it feels good” mentality.
I believe his ideas (if adopted) will lead to more entropy rather than order in society.
It’s hard to argue with him because he’s a fast talker, speaks with the utmost confidence, and will have a stance even if he’s not fully informed.
Streamers are slowly beginning to have way more influence on the culture.
Where they used to play video games and entertain 13-year-olds, they are slowly expanding…
They are talking about gun control, abortion, and immigration laws.
Their speech is getting sharper.
Even if you think they have 0 influence on you, someone you listen to is listening to these streamers, and are building the agenda for their show around their talking points.
