Stop Asking People for Unreasonable Favors

I saw this funny tweet recently:
‘It’s a miracle that U-Haul just lets anyone rent out their trucks and drive them on the highways.’
I thought about it.
Yea, that’s true!
Don’t you need some type of license to drive a truck?
Whenever I’m on the highway, I see U-Haul drivers driving super slow.
Before, I thought it was because they were transporting a lot of things.
But now that I think about it, they are probably nervous about driving this huge piece of machinery.
A regular guy driving a U-Haul seems like a stretch.
If someone asks me to help them move nowadays, the answer is no.
If it’s a close friend, I’d rather chip in 50 bucks to help him hire a moving company rather than helping him move myself.
I think it shows poor social intelligence to ask someone to help you move after the age of 30.
People are busy!
If you need help moving a couch or some basic stuff, then that’s fine.
But expecting someone to dedicate a whole day to help you load beds, sofas, and boxes…
To then unload all that stuff is ridiculous!
And what does the person who helps you move get out of it?
A cheese pizza at the end of the day?
Nah.
I recommend not even asking for that favor.
Save up money and hire a moving company.
Asking for the wrong favors will have you accidentally building an entitled attitude.
It’s fine to ask for help moving when you’re in your 20s.
You’re probably not making that much money and it’s a good way for students to bond.
But in your 30s, you should have some money.
At this age, people have families.
Once they are done helping you move, there are side effects.
Like back pain.
What if a couch slips and lands on their toe?
Now they need to handle the upcoming work week with pain.
Be sure that you’re not overcrossing your boundaries and asking for unreasonable favors.
Just because a favor was reasonable in one stage of your life doesn’t mean it’s reasonable at another stage of your life.
