My Honest Review of the Movie Drop

My Honest Review of the Movie Drop

In recent weeks, I haven’t been too excited about watching any movies, even with my AMZ movie pass.

Most films didn’t grab my attention.

They felt like filler content.

But then I saw the trailer for Drop, and I was intrigued.

A hot blonde woman in a red outfit popped on screen, and the plot had just enough mystery to hook me.

I was expecting a horror movie, but Drop surprised me.

It’s being marketed as a horror movie, but in my opinion, it’s more of a thriller.

As someone who loves thrillers, I was all in.

In this review, I want to give you an honest breakdown of my thoughts on Drop.

Did it hold up?

Let’s get into it.

Was It Entertaining?

The first thing I always ask myself after watching a movie is: Was I entertained?

I don’t care how “deep” a movie is.

If it’s boring, I’m checked out.

Take My Dead Friend Zoe, for example.

It may have had a strong message, but it was so slow and dull that the message got lost on me.

But Drop?

Drop was entertaining from start to finish.

It kept my attention, built suspense effectively, and didn’t feel like it dragged on.

At around 1 hour and 40 minutes, it was just a bit longer than the sweet spot I usually look for in films (about 1 hour and 30 minutes), but it never felt long or bloated.

The plot was crisp and straightforward.

It followed a woman who begins receiving disturbing digital airdrop messages warning her that her son will die unless she kills her date.

Is she being set up?

Who’s behind the messages?

Is she really supposed to go through with it?

There wasn’t a huge variety of settings, which worked in the film’s favor.

It focused more on the unfolding tension than on jumping around to different places, and that gave the story a sharp focus.

The Acting

The acting was surprisingly solid.

There weren’t too many characters, so I wasn’t expecting Oscar-worthy performances, but the cast delivered where it counted.

One thing I can’t stand is when you can tell actors are acting.

That wasn’t the case here.

The lead actress did a great job portraying someone caught between trying to enjoy a date and being bombarded with horrifying messages.

The male lead was equally relatable.

Just a guy trying to have a good time, but clearly noticing that something was off.

In a thriller like this, empathy matters.

If the acting helps you feel what the characters are feeling, it’s doing its job.

Flaws (If I Had to Name Some)

A few scenes felt a bit rushed, but not enough to hurt the pacing overall.

Maybe for two or three minutes at a time, the energy would dip, but then it would quickly bounce back and pull you back in.

Also, it wasn’t super unpredictable.

If you’re a seasoned thriller watcher, you might be able to guess a few things.

But it didn’t ruin the fun.

This is a film best enjoyed in theaters.

Most of it takes place high above a city, with an amazing skyline as the backdrop.

That visual consistency helps you feel like you’re right there with the characters.

Over time, the setting itself begins to feel familiar, almost like a character in the story.

Final Rating

I’m giving Drop an 8.2 out of 10.

For me to give a thriller a 9, it needs to be franchise-worthy.

Something like Saw, which became a psychological thriller empire.

Drop doesn’t quite hit that legendary mark, but it has potential.

It’s more of a high-quality B-rated film rather than a cinematic masterpiece.

But for a thriller to land above an 8, that’s impressive.

You won’t walk out of the theater feeling like you wasted your time.

It’s exactly the kind of film I’d recommend for a Friday night if you want to stay entertained without overthinking.
