My Experience with Getting an AMC Movie Pass
I’ll be real.
For a while, I became a movie hater.
I even made content about how much I preferred TV shows over movies.
I said that movies were dead.
Heck, I even claimed that movie theaters were dying, too.
Recently, my perspective has changed.
I’ve found a newfound love for movies again.
Especially because I have one of those movie passes.
Specifically, I’m an AMC A-List Stubs member.
With this pass, I can watch up to three movies a week.
That’s a lot!
And it costs just $26 a month.
I went for the premium experience package, but you can get a package for less money if you prefer.

Instead, this is going to be a lesson in storytelling and how I rediscovered my love for movies.
Why I Got the Movie Pass
I don’t drink, and my wife doesn’t drink either.
Normally, when people around my area suggest fun activities, they’re often talking about clubs and bars.
I have nothing against those places, but they’re just not my scene anymore.
Ever since I got married, I thought, “What’s a fun activity that both my wife and I could enjoy together?”
I love storytelling.
She loves movies.
So one day, we watched Mufasa at the theater.
Each ticket was around $15.
Not bad.
But then I saw that the movie passes cost $26.
Wait a minute… that’s an insanely good deal!
If you watch just two movies, you’ve already made your money back.
The theater is only 10 minutes from where I live.
I’m pretty sure I could watch more than two movies a month, so the math made sense.
My Experience with the Movie Pass
So far, my experience has been amazing.
I don’t have any complaints.
Here’s why:
- Good Movies: I’ve been lucky to see some great films like Mufasa and Better Man. I also saw a vampire movie called Nosferatu.
- Entourage Feature: One cool feature is that I can add entourage members. This means I can send my wife a link to join my entourage. She can book tickets for us while I’m at work, and we’ll get seats next to each other. It’s so convenient.
- Reclining Chairs: I love the reclining chairs at the theater. Being able to lean back and relax while watching a movie is such a vibe.
- The Atmosphere: Everyone at the theater is there to have a good time. The place is clean, and with my movie pass, there’s no waiting in lines. I’m treated like a VIP, and I love it.
I’m not much of a snacker, so I can’t comment on loyalty points or concessions.
I just go to the theater for the movies, and the experience has been amazing.
Why I Was Wrong About Movies and Movie Theaters
For a while, I thought movie theaters would get wiped out by streaming platforms like Netflix, just as taxis got overtaken by rideshare apps like Uber.
But I was wrong.
I was wrong because of the vibe.
This isn’t a purely practical decision.
It’s an emotional one.
With taxis and Ubers, it’s all about convenience and cost.
Who wants to wait for a taxi when you can call an Uber instantly?
And Uber often costs less.
For movies, it’s different.
You could get Netflix for a month for the same price as a single movie ticket.
Heck, Netflix is even cheaper.
So, why go to the movies?
It’s all about the vibe.
There’s something magical about going to the theater with someone special.
It feels good to get out of the house.
It’s the perfect last-minute date idea.
My wife and I love knowing that Wednesdays are our movie reservation nights.
Also, a lot of people go to the movies by themselves, and they enjoy it.
They love that they can book multiple seats, spread out, and relax with their snacks.
Learning by Consuming
In my book, The Art and Science of Storytelling, I talk about how you can learn storytelling by consuming great stories.
I’ve always loved stories, but for a while, I preferred TV shows.
I didn’t care much for movies.
However, sitting in a theater with a big screen in front of me changes everything.
I don’t pull out my phone as much, so I’m forced to focus on the story.
That’s how I’ve improved my own storytelling…
By analyzing what works and what doesn’t in the movies I watch.
Final Verdict on the Movie Pass
I love the movie pass, and I see it being part of my lifestyle for a long time.
I’m surprised more people don’t know about it.
Right now, it’s marketed as a pass for hardcore moviegoers.
But honestly, you don’t have to be hardcore.
If you watch three movies a month, the pass is already worth it.
Especially if you have a personal brand, watching unique stories can be a great way to spark creativity.
For example, when I watched Better Man, I initially questioned why the main character (in a music biopic) was portrayed as a monkey.
At first, it seemed random.
But as the story unfolded, I understood the deeper meaning, and it all began to make sense.
Storytelling is learned both on the big screen and the small screen.
It was my mistake to marginalize movies and theaters.
They aren’t going anywhere.
