Lurkers: The Silent Backbone of Every Creator

In the world of content creation, there is a group known as the silent majority.

‘The silent majority?’

That’s correct.

 

The silent majority of the content creation world is the group of people who watch, hear & read all of your stuff.

Yet, they never interact with your stuff.

 

So, you have no clue they are there.

But they are there.

 

I discovered the silent majority when I started getting clients from my ArmaniTalks brand.

 

Every now and then, I’d post a tweet saying that I am taking on new clients and to book a free consult call to see if we are a good fit.

 

One person who booked a call was a 65-year-old lawyer who said he bookmarks each of my tweets.

I asked him what his Twitter handle was?

He gave it to me.

 

It was an anonymous account that was following 200 people & had 2 followers.

No tweets, mainly retweets.

At first glance, the account looked like a bot.

 

Talking to the account holder gave me clarity. It showed me that behind these accounts are people who heard me and watched me.

We worked together for a best man speech that he had coming up.

 

I wondered how many more accounts like that were out there.

Then I thought about it… I do the same thing!

 

As I have been growing my YouTube channel, I have been watching more videos on YouTube tips. One girl I am subscribed to is a girl named Annie. Each of her videos are highly informative.

 

After watching her videos, I always learn something new.

However, after watching her videos, I don’t engage.

 

That’s not how I use YouTube.

I just use it to watch or make videos myself.

 

Annie probably has no clue that I exist.

I am simply a silent majority to her.

 

Everyone uses social media differently.

Some use it to lurk.

Others use it to learn.

Others use it to lurk, learn, engage etc.

 

Social media is a powerful tool.

A tool that can spread messages to multiple parties of all shapes and sizes.

 

One thing with the digital world is that it is quick to take away the humanization.

‘Meaning?’

Meaning that it’s easy to see numbers instead of people.

 

Let’s say you are an upcoming Twitter account with 1,500 followers. You may think:

‘Well, there are so many bigger accounts.’

 

But 1,500 is nothing to scoff at! That’s like 3 wedding sized audiences.

And these people are curious about what you have to say.

The silent majority is spilling over.

 

Although you may not hear them…

Although you may not see them…

Although you may have no clue they exist…

 

They are paying attention.

Be consistent & produce with abundance.
