Journaling by Hand vs Microsoft Word: Which One is Better?
The following post is from the ArmaniTalks Newsletter
Throughout the years, I’ve ping-ponged between journaling by hand vs using Microsoft doc.
Journaling preferences have a similar parallel to reading a paperback book vs reading a Kindle.
When I’m traveling, I like to take my Kindle with me.
On the daily though, I prefer paperbacks.
On a daily basis, I like journaling by hand.
It’s effective and introduces some analog into my life.
The ArmaniTalks brand creates a lot of content on YouTube, Twitter, podcast, blogs etc.
I’m in front of the computer a lot.
So, writing by hand introduces a break from all the digital work.
Every now and then though, turmoil hits.
When the turmoil is big enough, I prefer Microsoft Doc rather than writing by hand.
When I write by hand, there’s more friction.
You can only handwrite so fast.
While with typing, that friction is removed.
Nowadays, it’s hard to find people to talk to who actually listen and get what you are going through.
It’s typically one or the other.
They will listen, but have no clue what you are going through, so their questions fall flat.
Other times, they know exactly what you are going through, but they suck at listening.
That’s when the good ole’ Microsoft Doc comes in handy.
Others don’t have to listen, but you can get yourself to listen.
When using the Microsoft doc, don’t focus on grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
All those can be worked on later.
Just focus on taking the internal feelings to the external world.
On the daily, I like the handwriting journal method better.
It slows me down and introduces analog into my life.
But when the turmoil is big enough, I will switch over to Microsoft Doc.
