Do You Run out of Breath While Talking?

Do You Run out of Breath While Talking?

Be honest…

Do you run out of breath while talking?

This is annoying.

Especially when you have a great point to make.

Running out of breath while talking is a common problem.

However, many will not notice it.

The fact that you found this article is a good sign.

Now you notice it.

This talk is going to break down why the problem is occurring.

If you are aware of any physical issues, then I recommend getting checked out by a doctor.

However, if a part of you thinks it’s mental, then this article will come in handy.

In this article, you’ll learn why you have shortness of breath while speaking & a few practical methods to handle this asap.

It will require work.

There is no magic pill for this issue.

The GOOD Reason You Run Out Of Breath While Talking

There are 2 types of people in conversations:

-Creators.

-Contributors.

  • Creators are responsible for thinking of topics to center the conversation around.
  • The contributor contributes points to that topic.

Which one do you think requires more effort?

‘Creator.’

Why?

‘Because this person has to be more creative.’

Correct.

If you are currently facing the shortness of breath issue, analyze if you’re in a creator position.

Are you thinking of more topics in a conversation?

Are you giving a speech?

Doing an impromptu talk?

Then chances are that you’re evolving into a creator mindset.

Not only are you responsible for thinking, you’re also responsible for delivering.

This requires more bandwidth for delivery.

Shortness of breath is completely normal when you’re blossoming into a creator.

Consider it to be growing pains.

This is the good reason for shortness of breath.

We will discuss the fixes shortly.

The BAD Reason You Run Out Of Breath While Talking

‘Hey man, I’m not necessarily a creator. But I still run out of breath. Why?’

Then for you, it’s either anxiety, a poor lifestyle, or both.

Anxiety makes you overthink.

Even if you are a contributor in the conversation, you think that you’re a creator.

Which causes you to unnecessarily give yourself more mental bandwidth.

A poor lifestyle is self-explanatory.

If you are doing hardcore drugs, getting drunk everyday & eating Cheetos nonstop…

Then chances are that your body is not performing well.

With a poor lifestyle, walking makes you break a sweat.

What do you think speaking will do?

‘Make me run out of breath?’

Yep.

Few Fixes for Running of Breath While Talking

I’m going to give you a series of suggestions that have practical utility.

One of them is going to seem unorthodox.

That’s fine.

Try it out before you second guess it.

How about I start off with the unorthodox method first?

‘Sure, I’d like that.’

Coolio….

1. Workout Mask

You ever watched Batman?

‘Yea, I watched it a few times.’

Remember Bane?

‘Yea.’

Well, you’re going to unlock your inner Bane.

Buy a workout mask from Amazon.

Here’s one that I recommend:

Then workout with this mask.

You’ll notice it’s more difficult to breath.

This is good. Because it teaches you HOW to breathe.

When your heart rate is up, try talking.

‘Do I need to work out?’

That will be optimal.

But let’s say you don’t want to work out.

Simply having the mask on will cause resistance to your breathing.

Which will FORCE you to adjust.

Try creating some practice speeches or impromptu talks while wearing the mask.

It will not be easy.

Good, we don’t want easy.

Keep adjusting & finding how to become a holistic communicator.

Right now, you are top heavy. Only speaking from the head.

The goal is for you to engage the entire body, then speak.

2. Create More Content

Whether you’re a creator or a contributor, you can get some benefits out of this suggestion.

Create more.

Learn the art of articulating your thoughts.

So you’re not overthinking as much.

Something like what I’m doing right now.

I’m writing my thoughts down.

This articles helps me understand the concept of why people run out of breath while talking.

Now imagine if a little kid came up to me and asked me why he ran out of breath while talking.

I’ll have a CRYSTAL-CLEAR answer for him.

I don’t have to think & speak at the same time.

Bandwidth is reduced & speaking becomes seamless.

That’s why journaling & some form of content creation changes you physiologically.

If you’re looking for a quality journal to write on, check out the Story Mode Journal:

3. Fix Up Your Lifestyle

You may not want to hear this, but I recommend you fix up your life, homie.

Drink more water, eat more natural foods & get some sleep.

If you’re too lazy to do that, then try to incorporate humor into your life.

‘Why humor?’

Because when you’re too serious, you make a bad problem worse.

The reason I recommend fixing up your lifestyle is because communication is a holistic process.

You require mastery of the body, breath, and mind.

The better shape that you get in, the easier it is to speak.

‘Do I have to lift weights?’

You can, that’ll help.

Another suggestion is Hatha Yoga.

Find a Yoga routine on YouTube, get a mat, and do it at least once a week.

‘Yoga? That’s for girls!’

Incorrect.

Currently, your body is a bunch of isolated components.

We want to turn it into a unified system.

A plan like Hatha Yoga will help you see connections between your right bicep & your left calf.

You become a more holistic person.

This allows you to manage your breath better.

And if you’re too lazy to do that, at least try to be funnier.

A funny personality makes you feel lighter & makes it easier for the words to flow out.

Speak Easy & Speak Assertively

You can make speaking a fun activity.

Just because there is growing pains to becoming a creator does not mean that you quit.

What it means is that you double down!

Go even harder.

Make this process fun.

Now you know that it’s perfectly normal for people to run out of breath while talking.

Rather than throw in the towel, allow this knowledge to make you feel more confident.

In my new book Speak Easy, I break down how to proceed forward in your speaking journey towards becoming a creator.

You will learn:

  • How to create an articulation chamber to build a powerful voice.
  • How to create topics to entertain others.
  • And how to become funnier so it’s easier for your words to flow out.

Overcome speech anxiety & become more assertive!
