Do Women See Abs Like Men See Makeup?
The following post is from Reborn: 101 Short Stories, Essays, and Insights to Improve Communication Skills
There is this white influencer on the internet who is currently getting cancelled for casually using the N word in one of her videos.
Once she dropped the N word, the public was outraged.
Rather than apologize, she doubled down.
She said that she wasn’t sorry.
The internet found her name and where she worked.
The internet bombarded her company to fire her.
Which the company eventually did.
This girl’s following is going through the roof on Twitter.
Her profile popped up on my feed recently.
I went on her profile to see what she was about.
As I scrolled through her page, I saw one video that she made a while ago.
It was about abs and makeup.
This girl talked about how there are a lot of guys who don’t like the makeup look on women.
They think it makes the woman look fake.
Suddenly, she drew a stunning parallel.
She said that women view gym bros in the same “fake” way.
I never heard that analogy before.
She said it’s one thing to be in shape.
Like the type of physique that you build from being a car mechanic who does a lot of manual work.
But it’s completely different when your life revolves around the gym.
When you are shredded, have those big round shoulders, and are flexing in front of any mirror you can find.
I read the comments to see what others thought.
A lot of girls were saying that she was spot on!
“Omg, I always thought I was the only one who felt that way. I’m not into gym bros!”
The guys were bashing her though.
They felt she was making a poor connection.
They said that you don’t earn makeup.
You just pay money and get it done.
While getting a 6 pack requires pain, discipline, and a vision.
I understood what the guys were saying.
I used to have a 6 pack myself.
But I believe the guys in the comments misunderstood what she was trying to say.
She wasn’t saying that abs aren’t hard to get.
She was saying that being too big and shredded gives the same fake look in men that men despise in highly caked up women.
As I got older, I’m more focused on looking good and being healthy.
I play basketball, do calisthenics, and weightlifting.
I don’t revolve my life around the gym like I did when I was 18 years old.
I have other stuff to worry about.
Going to the gym is like taking out the trash for me.
I do it because I have to.
I also get my fitness advice from 40-year-old fathers who are in shape.
They are at the stage where they have properly contextualized the role of fitness in their lives.
They don’t tell you to wake up at 4 in the morning and drink a protein shake.
Their advice is boring.
Do progressive overload, try to get 10,000 steps in, and watch what you eat.
I love boring.
Overall, I understood where this girl was coming from when she said she likes physiques that are developed from being a construction worker who lifts heavy stuff for practical reasons vs the gym bro who centers their entire life around the gym.
